Deutschland Ambassadors Initiative

Project Overview

The aim of this project is to build a "Transatlantic Alumni Bridge". The U.S. Liaison Offices of 14 German Universities came together to connect their alumni across the United States. We have already been actively promoting alumni relations, organizing events and projects together for a couple of years. During the Year of German American Friendship we want to take it to the next level, building new platforms for alumni living and working in U.S. regions with a German tradition. We aim at actively engaging our alumni as ambassadors to help inform and prepare the next generation of students for studying, interning and working in Germany. This event-series will bring us across the United States in 2019!

April 9, 2019: University of Madison Wisconsin

German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced in the fall of last year that she would step down as leader of the Christian-Democratic Union and refrain from seeking reelection. During years of political and economic turmoil, Merkel was seen as a factor of stability and continuity at home and abroad. How will her departure impact policy in Germany and abroad?

Prof. Nils Ringe, Director of the Center for European Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will offer his thoughts on what a new era of uncertainty may bring for Europe and its most powerful country.
