Slim Design of small Satellite Communication Links

Upcoming small satellite systems call for cost efficient and light weight communication sub-systems. Utilizing commercially available radio frequency integrated circuits (RFIC) as used in mobile phones can satisfy these requirements.

The objective of this project is to select suitable RFICs and design a small communication system. The design shall follow guide lines for rapid prototyping.

Tasks

  • Simulation and optimization using AWR Microwave Office suite
  • Manufacturing, assembly, and test of the system

Requirements

 

  • Basic knowledge of microwave systems
  • Basic knowledge of communication systems
  • Some lab experience, esp. usage of spectrum analyser, breadboard design, soldering

  • Development of electrical propelled ultralight aircraft
  • Development of unmanned aerial vehicles
  • Development of a Mach 1 sounding rocket
  • Development of a hybrid rocket engine
  • Development of a H2O2/Gasoline rocket engine
  • Development of satellite simulators
  • Development of flight simulators

 

Student projects are offered in ongoing research and development projects on rocket design, rocket propulsion systems, aircraft design, aircraft electrical propulsion and simulation systems.

Tasks

 

  • Analysis of design alternatives
  • Design of mechanical subsystems
  • Design of electrical and electronical subsystems
  • Test of components and subsystems

Requirements

 

 

Good analytical skills, practical skills for laboratory and workshop, flexibility and high motivation.

Language Skills

 

Fluent English (reading, writing, speaking) required, basic German (talking, reading) preferred.

As a study or final thesis and depending on conditions for recognition at home institution.
